Dr. Nyingi Banigo

Founder of Ember Therapy | Clinical Psychologist | EMDR Therapist

BSc, MSc, DClinPsy

I am an HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist who currently works in the NHS, specialising in supporting women and birthing people who have experienced the loss of a pregnancy or baby, and the trauma that so often accompanies it.

To me, therapy goes beyond addressing symptoms—it's about understanding the whole person within the context of their early experiences, cultural beliefs and values. These influences shape how we perceive ourselves, connect with others, and navigate life's challenges.

In my clinical practice, I draw upon a range of evidence-based therapeutic models, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Attachment Theory, Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and grief and trauma-informed approaches. These frameworks allow me to tailor therapy to each person's unique needs and experiences, ensuring that my work remains flexible, integrative, and person-centred. My clinical work spans trauma-related experiences, grief and loss, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and relational or attachment difficulties.

I hold a particular interest in supporting women and birthing people who have experienced birth trauma, perinatal loss, termination of pregnancy (for medical or non-medical reasons), fertility and IVF-related challenges. Perinatal loss often arrives hand in hand with a traumatic experience, which can shatter your sense of safety and leave a profound imprint on your day-to-day life, your sense of self, and the way you move through the world. I offer a warm, safe space to gently explore such experiences and memories together, in a way that feels manageable and at a steady pace.
